The Indian Institute of Welding (IIW-India) Cochin Branch, in association with the IIW-India Foundation, proudly announces the 11th D&H Sécheron Electrodes Young Engineers Competition – 2026.
This prestigious national-level online competition is designed to motivate and recognize young engineers working in welding technology, metallurgy, QA/QC, NDT testing, surface protection, corrosion control, and related fields. It offers an excellent platform to showcase expertise, creative thinking, technical knowledge, and professional acumen while competing for attractive cash prizes.
About IIW-India
The Indian Institute of Welding (IIW-India) was incorporated on 22nd April 1966 at Kolkata to foster welding science, technology, and engineering in India. It is a non-profit organization registered under Section 25 of the Companies Act 1956 and Section 12A of the Income Tax Act 1961.
With its head office in Kolkata and 14 branches across major cities (including Cochin), plus 24 Student Chapters, IIW-India continues to serve the welding industry nationwide.

- 1st Prize: ₹50,000
- 2nd Prize: ₹25,000

- Eligible Participants: Professionals from industry, researchers, academicians, practicing engineers, educational institutions, and technology centers.
Age Limit: Participants must not be more than 35 years as on 01-11-2026.
Entry Fee
₹2,000 + GST @ 18% = ₹2,360 per team Payment must be made along with the filled entry form on or before 31 August 2026.
Rules of the Contest
- Team of three young engineers.
- Written presentation carries 45% weightage of the total score.
- First-level elimination is based on the written presentation.
- Oral presentation is made by any two members (third member acts as stand-by).

- Presentation & Format of Report: 30
- Originality & Creative Thinking: 30
- Accuracy of Content & Extent of Research: 30
Oral Presentation
- Clarity & Substance of Presentation: 30
- Ability to communicate and respond to questions effectively: 30
- Team work in presentation: 30
- Contribution to effective technological thinking & performance: 20
Guidelines for Submission
- Written paper length: 3,000 – 4,000 words (exclusive of exhibits, charts, and summary).
- Must be based on original research and analysis (primary + secondary sources).
- Should not have been published or presented elsewhere previously.
- Format: MS Word, A4 size, double spacing, Arial font size 12, one-sided printing.
- Must include:
- Synopsis (max 500 words)
- Table of Contents
- List of References (properly cited in the text)
- Soft copy to be emailed to: parappilgk@yahoo.com
- Organizations may sponsor any number of teams.
Important Dates
- Registration Deadline: Monday, 31 August 2026
- Full Paper Submission: Friday, 16 October 2026
- Online Presentation: Saturday, 7 November 2026
Selected teams will receive an online presentation link and must join at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time. Late reporting will result in cancellation.
