Online Competition 

About IIW India

THE INDIAN INSTITUTE OF WELDING (IIW-India ) was incorporated on 22rd April1966 at Kolkata to foster the welding science, technology and engineering in India. Since then IIW-India has been serving the cause of welding industry through its 13 branches throughout India. 

The Institute is a non-profit making organization registered under section 25 of The Companies Act 1956 and is also registered under section12 A of Income Tax Act 1961, as an Institution for charitable purposes. 

The Institute having its head office at Kolkata, and 13 branches at major cities in the country, viz. Kolkata, New Delhi, Jamshedpur, Baroda, Bhilai, Vishakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Cochin and Tiruchirappalli. The centres at Bhubaneswar, Surat and 16 Student’s Chapters. The Institute has celebrated its "GOLDEN JUBILEE " during 2016. 

IIW-India Cochin hosted NWM 2022 in association with Cochin Shipyard Limited : Golden Jubilee Celebration on Ocober14 th and15th at Ernakulam. With the intention of motivating the young engineers who are engaged in the field of welding and related activities, the institute proposes to organize a "COMPETITION AMONG YOUNG ENGINEERS IN WELDING TECHNOLOGY METALLURGY QA/QC, SURFACE PROTECTION, CORROSION CONTROL AND RELATED FIELDS". 

Professionals from the Industry, Researchers, Academicians, Practicing Engineers, NDT, Welding Educational Institutions, Technology Centers etc. from the above mentioned fields are eligible to participate the competition. 

The competition will provide an excellent opportunity to young engineers to demonstrate their expertise and creative thinking, knowledge in technology, professional acumen and thereby winning recognition for expertise in their respective fields. 

The idea developed may be converted as a product or a service and applicable to the industry on a later date. The First, Second & Third position holders will be eligible for Cash Awards.

 

ENTRY FEE

An entry fee of Rs.2000.00 +(GST@18%) per team shall be paid along with entry form attached herewith to be sent on or before 18th November 2024

 

RULES OF THE CONTEST

The age of the participants should not be more than 35 years as on 01-06-2024 Written Presentation to carry 45% weightage of the totals cores. First level elimination of teams will be based on the written presentation.

GUIDELINES OF THE COMPETITION

  • The paper on the prescribed theme may be prepared and submitted by a team of THREE Young Engineers. But the oral presentation shall be made by any TWO of the team, leaving the THIRD member as stand-by to cover any eventuality. 
  • Each competing team is expected to submit a written paper on the theme with a text of between 3,000 and 4,000 words. This length shall be exclusive of the exhibits, charts, etc., forming part of the paper as well as the summary. The presentation should be based on original research and analysis of data from pertinent sources both primary and secondary, including the team's own organization, wherever applicable. 
  • The paper should be in MS Word on A4 Size paper with double space. Typing / printing should be only on one side of the paper with Arial font Size 12. 
  • The text shall have to be preceded by a synopsis not exceeding 500 words. 
  • There should be a table of contents indicating various topics /headings. 
  • A list of references are to be given at the end of the paper and the same must be indicated at the appropriate places in the text through the serial numbers in the list. 
  • The soft copy of the same should be mailed to us at parappilgk@yahoo.com 
  • Participating organisations are at liberty to sponsor any number of teams. 
  • The paper submitted will be evaluated by a panel of judges and, if qualified, the teams will be invited to make the presentation before a panel of judges. 
  • The contest will be in two stages. Primarily a written presentation to be prepared and submitted by the team members to The IIW-India Cochin Branch. The written presentation shall be evaluated by a panel of experts. The selected team will be invited for an ONLINE Presentation. 
  • For making the ONLINE presentation, participants must use the online link provided by us and needs to be present online, 10 minutes before the time allotted by us. 
  • The teams failed to report online before the time scheduled for the presentation will be treated at cancelled. 
  • The decision of THE INDIAN INSTITUTE OF WELDING shall be final and binding on all matters relating to this competition.
