ABOUT INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF WELDING

The International Institute of Welding (IIW) was founded in 1948 by the welding institutes or societies of 13 countries that considered it crucial to make more rapid scientific and technical progress possible on a global basis.

MISSION OF IIW

To advance welding and joining through a worldwide network.

VISION OF IIW

The leading global community linking industry, research and education to the advancement of
welding and joining for a safer & sustainable world.

ABOUT THE INDIAN INSTITUTE OF WELDING

The Indian Institute of Welding (IIW-India) is a national level professional body of welding fraternity devoted to the promotion and advancement of welding science & technology. It was established on 22nd April 1966 with its registered office at Kolkata. It has 13 branches, 2 Centres and several Students' Chapters all over India.

It has more than 4500 members including around 150 industries as Industrial Corporate Members. IIW-India publishes ‘Indian Welding Journal’ which has technical research papers of high standards. The Institute is a member society of the International Institute of Welding (IIW) and has acquired Authorised Nominated Body (ANB) to award internationally accredited professional Diplomas such as IWE, IWT etc., also acquired Authorised Nominated Body for Company Certification (ANBCC) to certify Industries as per ISO 3834.

IIW-India also conducts its own welder certification programme, under National Welding Training & Certification Scheme (NWTCS) and AM-IIW Examination for ‘National Welding Engineer’ certification. Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (Govt. of India), has empanelled IIW-India as an “Assessing Body” for MES courses under Skill Development Initiative (SDI) Scheme for welding courses under Fabrication Sectors in all States and Union Territories in India.

Similarly, IIW-India is also empanelled by NSDC as the “Assessing Body” for Certification of welders under PMKVY schemes under various Sector Skill Councils. Also, the Institute supports industry through upskilling of Welders and Welding Engineers with tailormade certification programmes.

ABOUT THE THEME AND THE CONGRESS

The Theme ‘Advancement towards Sustainable and Green Welding’ is extremely the need of the hour. Though the welding technology has undergone a phenomenal change over the last five decades, the atmosphere or our environment is still under severe risk through the welding activities, including global warming. To overcome the situation we need Green Welding, i.e., the process with less hazardous fumes and gases. This Congress will provide a dynamic forum for professionals from industries, academia and research institutes to share and enhance the latest knowledge in Welding Science & Technology, to save our environment and to make local industries globally competitive. It will also promote regional co- operation by actively involving neighboring countries. The International Congress 2024 will also offer a platform for Young Professionals in the field of welding by having an exclusive Young Professionals’ International Conference.
