 Failure analysis of Weld Joints- Case studies, A Technical Talk

Technical talk fro IIW India is scheduled at 1600 hrs on Saturday 10th September 2022 at IIW Bengaluru Branch, Trinity NDT Aspire, Peenya, Bengaluru.

Title of my talk is-: Failure analysis of Weld Joints- Case studies 

Outline of the talk: The talk will primarily focus on defect investigation of weld failures in aeronautical components. Systematic metallurgical analysis carried out to arrive at the cause of weld failure will be exemplified through number of case studies. Recommendations provided in many of the failure cases will also be covered during the talk.

About Speaker

Vaisakhi Nandi obtained her B.E. in Metallurgy from M.S. University, Baroda and M.Tech in Materials Science from IIT Bombay. She joined Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in October 2002 and since then she is working in Central Materials and Processes Laboratory (CMPL) of Foundry & Forge (F&F) Division of HAL, Bangalore. 

She is currently Senior Manager (Lab) and is heading the Metallurgy testing area and leading the failure analysis team of the laboratory. She is an active team member in development of sintered metalloceramic materials for aircraft brake/clutch applications and other R&D projects of the division. Her professional experience includes rationalization of aerospace metallic materials and laboratory approvals from internal and exports customers as well as regulatory authorities.

 

She has recipient of Young Metallurgists of the Year 2009 award from Ministry of Steels, GoI; Indigenization of Aeronautical Equipment Award 2015 from Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI); Queens of the skies-Women in Aviation making India Proud (2019) from Ministry of Defence, GoI; and IPE’s Women of Excellence award-Certificate of Appreciation (2017) from Institute of Public Enterprises (IPE), Hyderabad. She is four time recipient of Women Achievers award from Forum of Women in Public Sector (WIPS) under the aegis of SCOPE in the years 2019, 2018, 2017 and 2011. She has also received first prizes for oral presentation of the technical papers in various seminars viz. NMD-ATM 2011 (Hyderabad) and NMD-ATM 2014 (Pune).

 

She is member of various professional bodies and is currently EC member of Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), Bangalore Chapter. She has published and presented more than 80 technical papers in various peer reviewed international/national journals and conferences/seminars.
