Selection of P-Number in Welding WPS Qualification As per ASME Code Section IX

Image
Selection of P-Number in Welding WPS Qualification As per ASME Code Section IX What is P-Number in welding?  In order to minimize the need for numerous welding procedure qualifications , base metals are assigned P-Numbers (abbreviated as P-No) based on their specific characteristics, including composition, weldability, brazeability, and mechanical properties.  This classification system aims to streamline the welding process by grouping materials with similar attributes together.  P-Number (P-No) plays a crucial role in welding procedure qualification and material compatibility. In this blog post, we will delve into the concept of P-Number, its significance, and its application in welding processes.  P-Number in Welding- Importance The P-Number system utilizes alphanumeric designations to group base metals together based on their shared characteristics in terms of weldability and mechanical properties.  The purpose of assigning P-Numbers is to streamline t...

Electrical Conductivity Testing Using Eddy Current Method

Image
Electrical Conductivity Testing Using Eddy Current Method  by Ravi Kumar Thammana Introduction  Electrical conductivity measurement can be done using Eddy current testing. This method gives good results for non magnetic materials. Works well with digital readout equipment or general purpose eddy current equipment. Among all NDT testing methods eddy current has more wider applications.  Apart from flaw detection, eddy current testing can be used for material sorting, hardness, heat treatment, pain thickness, conductive coating thickness on non conductive materials. Eddy current test method for detecting conductivity is applicable for non-ferromagnetic materials such as aluminium, titanium, magnesium, copper and other metals. Measurement can be performed on the materials that contains non conductive coating. Material sorting using Eddy current testing is an effective method to segregate materials based on alloy type, ageing, heat treatment micro structures hot or cold wo...
